History - Established 2004

The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award Ribbon was established in 2004 to honor United States Air Force units who perform noteworthy service in combat operations for a term of no fewer than 90 consecutive days. The initial date of eligibility is September 11, 2001.

Qualifying service is that which demonstrates exceptional commitment in demanding tasks to distinguish the unit from others; service must be related to the combat effort, though it need not have taken place in a combat zone.

Details

The ribbon features a dark blue central section flanked by a thinner white stripe on either side. The white stripe is followed on each side by a red stripe bisected by a thinner vertical white stripe.

Subsequent awards may be indicated by oak leaf clusters.
