History - Established 1980

Established on October 12, 1980, the Air Force Recognition Medal is awarded to members of the United States Air Force who have received special trophies for exceptional achievements or comportment that are not wearable.

Details

The medal is hexagonal in shape and features an eagle in front of a cloud and atop a shield bearing the seal of the Air Force. The ribbon is light blue and is bisected by a red vertical stripe. Each edge features a thin red vertical stripe and a white stripe of equal size to its interior.

Subsequent awards may be indicated by bronze oak leaf clusters.
