History

The Global War on Terrorism Commemorative Medal is intended to honor all those who carried out service in the Global War on Terror, beginning September 11, 2001 and ongoing as of 2016.

Relevant campaigns may include the following:

-Operation Active Endeavour
-Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan, Horn of Africa, Philippines, and Trans Sahara)
-Iraq and Iraqi airspace
-Operation Iraqi Freedom
-Operation New Dawn
-The International Security Assistance Force

Details

The ribbon is green with thin blue, white, and red stripes running through the center. Each edge features one thin black vertical stripe and one thin white vertical stripe to its interior. The medal itself depicts the United States flag in red, white, and blue flying over red and yellow flames. A black ring with the inscription “GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR” encircles the image with one star on each side. This award is not authorized for wear on military uniforms.
