Navy Expert Rifle Medal

History - Established 1969

The Navy Expert Rifle Ribbon accompanies the Marksmanship Medal, which is the highest award for weapons achievement. It is comparable to the Army and Marine Corps’ Expert Marksmanship Badge and is bestowed upon Coast Guard members who achieve a qualifying score as an expert marksman with a M16 rifle through an approved course.

Details

The medal features a target and a disk with the image of an eagle proceeding outward beyond the upper edge of the medallion. An inscription reads “EXPERT RIFLEMAN - UNITED STATES NAVY.” The ribbon is navy blue with a thin vertical green stripe in the center and one toward each edge.

For those who qualify as sharpshooters, a bronze “S” device may be issued.
