History - Established 1945

Established on December 11, 1945, the Inter-American Defense Board Medal honors officers who served on the Inter-American Defense Board. This group works to maintain and advance the security of nations belonging to the Organization of American States.

Details

The medal is bronze and features an image of the map depicting North and South America encircled by flags to denote the 21 charter nations of the OAS. The ribbon features equally sized vertical stripes of red, white, blue, yellow, and green from right to left.

Additional years of service on the board may be indicated as follows:

-One silver star or stripe of a single year of service
-One gold star or stripe for two years of service
-Two silver stars or stripes for three to five years of service
-Two gold stars or stripes for more than five years of service
