History

The Texas National Guard Purple Heart Ribbon honors Texas National Guard members who are killed or wounded in the line of duty or otherwise meet the requirements for the federal Purple Heart award. To qualify, the event must have taken place during service on or subsequent to September 11, 2001.

The Texas National Guard is composed of the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. The Army component dates back to a militia established by Sam Houston in 1835; it currently numbers approximately 19,000 and operates 117 armories. The Air component, headquartered in Austin, traces back to the 111th Aero Squadron formed in 1917 in support of World War I efforts.

Details

The ribbon is purple and is bisected by a thin vertical white stripe; it also features white edging and a white stripe outlined in gold in the center.
