Civil War Campaign Medal – Marine Corps

Established on January 11, 1905, the Civil War Campaign medal honors United States military members who carried out service in the Civil War between April 15, 1861 and April 9, 1865 with either the Union or Confederate forces. It is considered the United States’ first campaign medal, though it was issued only as a badge until 1956, when Congress approved the medal.

China Relief Expedition Medal – Marine Corps

Established on June 27, 1908, the China Relief Expedition Medal is the Marine Corps version of the China Campaign Medal, honoring United States military members who carried out service onshore or on designated ships in China between the dates of May 24, 1900 and May 27, 1901 as part of the China Relief Expedition during the Boxer Rebellion.
