United Nations Protection Force in Yugoslavia
The United Nations Protection Force in Yugoslavia Medal honors those who carried out service in advancing the United Nations peacekeeping efforts in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The peacekeeping force formed in February of 1992 and sought to curtail violence and prevent ethnic discrimination and other human rights abuses; it also assisted with ceasefire proceedings. The mission concluded in early 1996. Eligible individuals must have served for 90 days consecutively during the mission’s active period.
