History - Established 1987

Established on August 24, 1987, the the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service honors contributions made by civilians or qualifying foreign nationals in support of military forces.

Determination of eligibility rests with commanders but generally entails the performance of courageous acts in the event of an emergency on behalf of the government; work in the field of public relations or communications to portray the Armed Forces in a positive light; evidence of strong leadership qualities to enhance the overall performance of a unit; contributions resulting in improved protocols, procedures, or equipment; or general exemplary conduct in all duties.

Details

The image on the medallion is adapted from the official Army Seal and features weaponry, flags, and a scroll reading “THIS WE’LL DEFEND” over “1775.” A ring of blue enamel reading “DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL” encircles the image. The reverse features two branches of laurel and an inscription that reads “FOR CIVILIAN SERVICE.” The ribbon is blue with four thin vertical red stripes in the center, each flanked by a thinner white stripe on either side.
