Established on June 28, 1915, the Army of Cuban Occupation Medal honors United States military members who carried out qualifying service in Cuba between the dates of July 18, 1898 and May 20, 1902 in the aftermath of the Spanish-American War.
The medal is bronze and features the Cuban Coat of Arms encircled by an inscription reading “ARMY OF OCCUPATION - MILITARY GOVERNMENT OF CUBA.” The reverse features an eagle grasping weaponry; thirteen stars appear on the lower portion of the medal, and an inscription reading “UNITED STATES ARMY - FOR SERVICE” frames the eagle. The ribbon is blue and features a thin vertical yellow stripe toward the center on each side and a thick red stripe toward each edge.
