Established on August 23, 1944, the Army Meritorious Unit Citation honors United States Army Units that carry out extraordinary service over a period of no fewer than six months in a combat zone or in direct support of combat efforts. To qualify, service must have taken place or or subsequent to January 1, 1944.
Awardees may continue to wear the ribbon even after they are no longer with the unit to which the citation was issued.
The ribbon is red with no additional decoration; it features a gold frame with a leaf pattern.
Additional awards may be indicated by oak leaf clusters.
