History - Established 1987

The Army Superior Civilian Service Award Medal honors civilian employees who distinguish themselves through acts of valor or sustained outstanding performance on behalf of the Department of the Army.

The following criteria apply:
-Exhibit excellence in the execution of assignments in such a way as to increase general productivity; exhibit noteworthy competence or efficiency
-Demonstrate notable bravery in the event of a crisis on behalf of the government or government employees.
-Exhibit particular initiative or ingenuity in improving equipment, streamlining procedures, or resource conservation

Details

The medal features the Seal of the Department of the Army surrounded by text reading “SUPERIOR CIVILIAN SERVICE” and framed by a wreath of laurels. The reverse bears an inscription reading “DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY” on the upper portion and laurels on the lower portion. The ribbon is dark red with four thin vertical white stripes in the center.
