Established on January 12, 1905, the China Campaign Medal honors United States military members who carried out service onshore in China between the dates of June 20, 1900 and May 27, 1901 as part of the China Relief Expedition during the Boxer Rebellion.
The medal features the image of a Chinese dragon and an inscription reading “CHINA RELIEF EXPEDITION - 1900-1901.” The reverse features an eagle grasping weaponry; thirteen stars appear on the lower portion of the medal, and an inscription reading “UNITED STATES ARMY - FOR SERVICE” frames the eagle. The ribbon is yellow with blue edging.
The award may be issued with the Silver Citation Star to indicate gallantry.
