History - Established 1908
Established on June 27, 1908, the China Relief Expedition Medal – Navy is the Navy version of the China Campaign Medal, honoring United States military members who carried out service onshore or on designated ships in China between the dates of May 24, 1900 and May 27, 1901 as part of the China Relief Expedition during the Boxer Rebellion.
Details
The medal features a Chinese gate with a dragon in profile and an inscription reading “CHINA RELIEF EXPEDITION - 1900-1901.”The reverse features an eagle grasping weaponry; thirteen stars appear on the lower portion of the medal, and an inscription reading “UNITED STATES NAVY - FOR SERVICE” frames the eagle. The original ribbon was yellow with a thin vertical black stripe to each edge but changed on August 12, 1913 to a yellow ribbon with blue edging.
