History

The Texas State Guard Physical Fitness Ribbon honors Texas State Guard members who exhibit outstanding physical ability or fitness, exceeding standards for a two-mile run or swim and achieving the requisite number of situps and pushups.

The Texas State Guard offers mission-ready forces to provide service to the state in emergencies and to carry out security and humanitarian service. With origins tracing back to Stephen F. Austin’s militia groups in the 1800s, the Texas State Guard is headquartered in Austin, and its motto is “Equal to the Task.” It features a Command Group, Engineer Group, Army and Air Components, Maritime Regiment, and Medical Brigade.

The ribbon is bisected by a thick vertical red stripe flanked on either side by a blue stripe and a white stripe proceeding outward.
