The United Nations Iraq / Kuwait Observer Mission Medal honors those who assisted in carrying out observation on the Khor Abdullah waterway and the demilitarized zone between the countries of Kuwait and Iraq; the mission was established in April of 1991. Eligible individuals must have served for 90 days consecutively during that period.

The mission lasted from 2004 to 2011; the United States contributed 60 instructors as well as support, logistics, and a protection company.
Established on November 29, 2004, the Iraq Campaign Medal honors United States military personnel who carry out service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on or subsequent to March 19, 2003.
