History

The United Nations Iraq / Kuwait Observer Mission Medal honors those who assisted in carrying out observation on the Khor Abdullah waterway and the demilitarized zone between the countries of Kuwait and Iraq; the mission was established in April of 1991. Eligible individuals must have served for 90 days consecutively during that period.

Details

The medal is bronze and features the United Nations emblem of a globe encircled by a laurel wreath. The letters “UN” appear at the top of the medal, and the reverse reads “IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE.” The ribbon is off-white and is bisected by a vertical light blue stripe.

Subsequent awards may be indicated by bronze stars.
