History

The Coast Guard Auxiliary AMOS Public Education Ribbon honors Coast Guard Auxiliarists who carry out a minimum of 30 hours as an instructor or a minimum of 60 hours as an instructional aid. A combination of the two equivalent to 30 credits may also warrant the award.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was created by Congress on June 23, 1939 to provide support for Coast Guard operations in roles that do not entail military engagement or enforcement. Its 2015 numbers were estimated at 32,000 members.

The ribbon is bisected by a thin vertical red stripe flanked on either side by a thin blue stripe, thicker green stripe, thin blue stripe, and a red stripe proceeding outward.
