History - Established 1969
The Coast Guard Expert Pistol Shot Ribbon accompanies the Marksmanship Medal, which is the highest award for weapons achievement. It is comparable to the Army and Marine Corps’ Expert Marksmanship Badge and is bestowed upon Coast Guard members who achieve a qualifying score as an expert marksman with a 9x19mm Beretta M9 or .40 S&W SIG P229 DAK through an approved course.
Details
The medal is is the shape of a shield and features crossed pistols, a target, and an inscription reading “U.S. COAST GUARD EXPERT.” The ribbon is dark blue with a thin vertical white stripe toward each edge.
For those who qualify as sharpshooters, a silver “S” device may be issued.
