History - Established 1963

Established in 1963, the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon is the most prestigious award available to Coast Guard units during peacetime. It honors commands that demonstrate outstanding comportment or acts of valor on behalf of the Coast Guard in non-combat situations. Auxiliary units are also eligible for the award.

Details

The ribbon is bisected by a thin vertical white stripe flanked on either side by a thick green stripe and a thin stripe each of red, yellow, and blue proceeding outward.

Subsequent awards may be indicated by service stars, and the award may be issued with the Operational Distinguishing Device as appropriate.
