The Georgia State Defense Force Achievement Ribbon honors Georgia National Guard members who carry out noteworthy service of a lesser degree than would warrant the Georgia State Defense Force Commendation Medal.
Distinct from the Georgia National Guard but still under the aegis of the Georgia Department of Defense, the Georgia State Defense Force is a group of uncompensated volunteers who serve and assist the state in times of need. Headquartered in Marietta, the GSDF traces its roots back to General James Oglethorpe’s colonial militia in the eighteenth century, which contributed to Revolutionary War efforts against the British Crown.
The ribbon is white with thick vertical red stripes on each edge.
