Kuwait – Liberation of Kuwait Medal

History - Established 1995

Established on March 16, 1995, the Kuwait Liberation Medal is an award issued by the Kuwaiti government to honor United States Armed Forces personnel who carried out service in Operation Desert Shield and/or Operation Desert Storm as well as the Liberation of Kuwait between the dates of August 2, 1990 and August 31, 1993. Eligible areas include the following:

-Bahrain
-Iraq
-Kuwait
-Oman
-Qatar
-Saudi Arabia
-United Arab Emirates
-Designated portions of the Arabian Sea
-Gulf of Aden
-Gulf of Oman
-Persian Gulf
-Red Sea

Details

The medal is bronze and features the Kuwait Coat of Arms over a falcon and a shield bearing the colors of the Kuwait flag below an inscription of the year “1991” in Arabic. The reverse features an outline of the country of Kuwait. The ribbon is joined to the medal by a laurel wreath and features vertical stripes of red, white, and green and a horizontal black section in the image of Kuwait’s flag.
