Established on July 15, 1997, the Marine Corps Security Guard Ribbon honors Marine Corps members who carry out service as a US Embassy Security Guard dating back to January 28, 1949. To be eligible, individuals must carry out 24 months of service in this capacity at an embassy or consulate abroad and must possess the military occupational specialty 8156.
The ribbon is blue and is bisected by a thin vertical red stripe flanked on either side by a thicker white stripe.
Additional awards may be indicated by service stars; however, awards presented retroactively are one-time only.
