Established on March 24, 1982, the Multinational Force and Observers Medal Ribbon honors United States Armed Forces members who carried out a minimum of 90 days of service (the minimum term was increased to 170 days in 1985) cumulatively as part of the Multinational Force and Observers, which endeavored to maintain a ceasefire zone between Egypt and Israel following the Yom Kippur War. The international award may be granted retroactively dating back to August of 1981. The requisite term of duration may be waived in special circumstances including death or acts of valor.
The medal is bronze and features a stylized dove and olive branch encircled by an inscription reading “MULTINATIONAL FORCE & OBSERVERS.” The reverse reads “UNITED IN SERVICE FOR PEACE.” The ribbon is orange and is bisected by a vertical white stripe flanked on either side by a thin vertical brown stripe.
