Established in 2003, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal honors NATO personnel, military and civilian alike, who demonstrate outstanding service on behalf of NATO. Qualifying criteria may include the following:
-Feats of valor or heroism in adverse situations
-Demonstrating notable leadership and exemplary conduct
-Significant individual contributions to initiatives
-Undergoing considerable hardship in the service of NATO
Awards of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) honor the members of international militaries who carry out service on NATO’s behalf. Established in 1949 through the North Atlantic Treaty, NATO is a group of allied international military forces committed to supporting one another in the event of conflict.
The medal is silver and features a compass cross framed by a laurel wreath. The ribbon is blue and features thin vertical stripes on each edge in white, silver, white, gold, and white.
