The Navy Superior Civilian Service Award honors civilian Navy employees who carry out excellent service or make noteworthy contributions on behalf of the Navy or Marine Corps, typically of a lesser nature than would merit the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award. Qualifying achievements may include the following:
-Demonstrated leadership in programs making an impact beyond the individual’s immediate purview
-Technological improvements
-Demonstrated excellence in management or innovation resulting in improved protocols, economy or efficiency
-Feats of valor or heroism
-Generative collaborations with other parties
The medal is silver and features the Navy crest encircled by dark blue enamel and an inscription reading “DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY - SUPERIOR CIVILIAN SERVICE.” The ribbon is dark blue with three thin vertical white stripes toward the center.
