The Nebraska National Guard Commendation Medal honors Nebraska National Guard members who carry out meritorious service of a degree greater than that required for the Nebraska National Guard Achievement Medal but of a lesser degree than would warrant the Nebraska National Guard Distinguished Service Medal.
The Nebraska National Guard is composed of the Nebraska Army National Guard and the Nebraska Air National Guard. The Army component originated in 1854 and currently numbers approximately 3,700, making its headquarters in Lincoln. Established in 1946, the Air component numbers around 950 and is also headquartered in Lincoln; it consists of the 155th Air Refueling Wing and the 170th Group.
The ribbon is dark blue with three thin white vertical stripes toward the center.
