History

The New Jersey National Guard Governor’s Unit Award honors New Jersey National Guard units or other approved units as determined by the Adjutant General that carry out exceptional service so as to set themselves apart from other units. To be eligible, units must meet the following requirements:
-Minimum 90 percent attendance at split unit and equivalent training assemblies as well as annual training
-Maintain 90 percent strength on average during the applicable year

The New Jersey National Guard consists of the New Jersey Army National Guard and the New Jersey Air National Guard. Numbering over 9,000 soldiers, the Army component was officially established in 1920. The Air component was established in 1930, though its roots trace back to 1917, and is based in Egg Harbor Township; it consists of the 108th Wing and the 177th Fighter Wing.

The ribbon is yellow with a thin vertical blue stripe toward each edge; it features a gold frame with a leaf pattern.
