Philippine Independence Medal

History - Established 1946

Established on July 3, 1946, the Philippine Independence Medal is an award issued by the Philippine government to recognize service personnel who contributed to multiple operations on behalf of the Philippines during World War II. To be eligible, service must have taken place between December 7, 1941 and July 24, 1948; the recipient must have been present on duty on July 4, 1946 or must meet eligibility requirements for the Philippine Defense medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. The medal was added in 1968.

Details

The medal features a female figure holding a standard and framed by bolo knives; text reads “PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE - JULY 4, 1946.” The ribbon is blue and features a vertical white stripe in the center flanked on either side by a thin red stripe; a thin yellow stripe appears on each edge.
