The Texas National Guard Homeland Defense Ribbon honors Texas National Guard members who have carried out satisfactory active duty on or subsequent to September 11, 2001, and under Title 32 of the U.S. code.
The Texas National Guard is composed of the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. The Army component dates back to a militia established by Sam Houston in 1835; it currently numbers approximately 19,000 and operates 117 armories. The Air component, headquartered in Austin, traces back to the 111th Aero Squadron formed in 1917 in support of World War I efforts.
The ribbon is green and is bisected by a thin vertical blue stripe flanked on either side by a thin yellow stripe.
