The Washington National Guard Legion of Merit honors Washington National Guard members who carry out extraordinarily distinguished or meritorious service on behalf of the State.
The Washington National Guard is made up of the Washington Army National Guard and the Washington Air National Guard. The Army component numbers approximately 6,200 and is based in Camp Murray; it traces its roots back to territorial militia activity in 1853. The Air component, at around 2,100 members, is based in Tacoma and originated in 1917 with the formation of the 116th Aero Squadron, which supported World War I efforts.
The ribbon is yellow with a green vertical stripe on each edge.
