History

The World War II Iwo Jima Commemorative Medal is intended to recognize members of the United States Armed Forces who carried out operations in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.

Details

The medal features the image of three soldiers raising an American flag, framed by a palm tree on either side. An inscription on the upper portion of the medal reads “IWO-JIMA 1945-1995.” The ribbon is green and is bisected by a thin red vertical stripe. On each edge is a vertical white stripe followed by a thinner red and yellow stripe proceeding toward the interior.
