History - Established 1991

Established on October 7, 1991 by the Saudi government, the Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait Medal honors United States military members who carried out service in the Liberation of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm between the dates of January 17 and February 28,1991. To qualify, service must have taken place in one of the following areas:

-Bahrain
-Iraq
-Kuwait
-Oman
-Qatar
-Saudi Arabia
-United Arab Emirates
-Designated portions of the Arabian Sea
-Gulf of Aden
-Gulf of Oman
-Persian Gulf
-Red Sea

Details

The medal features fifteen rounded points, a wreath at the bottom, and a crown at the top; in the center is a globe with the outline of Saudi Arabia superimposed over it; an inscription on the bottom reads “LIBERATION OF KUWAIT” in both English and Arabic, and the medal is joined to the ribbon by a palm tree and crossed swords. The ribbon is green with a thin vertical white stripe, a thin black line, and a thin red stripe proceeding outward on each edge.
