To qualify, individuals must be part of designated Joint Operations Area units and must have carried out 30 days of service in Afghanistan, consecutive or agglomerate, in ISAF operations.
The NATO Article 5 Active Endeavour Medal honors military members and civilians who have carried out service in support of Operation Active Endeavour, designed to combat terrorism and the transit of weapons of mass destruction through maritime proceedings in the Mediterranean Sea.
Established on April 22, 1953, the National Defense Service Medal honors United States military members who carried out honorable service during designated conflicts.
