Established on March 28, 1958, the Air Force Commendation Medal honors United States Armed Forces personnel who distinguish themselves through notable service to the Air Force. Eligible acts are generally of a lesser degree than those that would qualify for the Airman’s Medal.
The medal is bronze and depicts an eagle clutching a baton and poised atop a shield bearing the seal of the Air Force. The medal is hexagonal in shape. The ribbon is golden yellow with a dark blue vertical stripe in the center; a thinner dark blue vertical stripe appears slightly to its exterior on either side and on each edge.
Additional awards may be indicated by bronze or silver oak leaf clusters or by a “V” device.
