Established in 1954, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award honors units of the United States Air Force that demonstrate outstanding service or achievement in combat or other operations against hostile forces. Units of the Air Force Reserve and the Air National Guard are also eligible, as are members of other military branches who carry out service with an Air Force unit. The Outstanding Unit award is the Air Force’s second highest unit award, behind only the Meritorious Unit award.
