History

The Alabama National Guard Commendation Ribbon honors Alabama National Guard personnel who have demonstrated outstanding or noteworthy behavior in carrying out their duties.

Comprised of the Alabama Air National Guard and the Alabama Army National Guard, the Alabama National Guard is approximately 11,000 members strong as of 2006. It traces its origins back to militia activity during the War of 1812, and the Air component was officially added in 1917 with the inception of the 106th Aero Squadron.

Details

The ribbon features a white center divided into thirds by two thin vertical red stripes. It is flanked by red on either side and, and a thin vertical white stripe decorates each edge.
