The New Mexico National Guard Emergency Service Ribbon honors New Mexico National Guard members who carry out service on behalf of the state in an emergency or other crisis as declared by the Governor.
The New Mexico National Guard is composed of the New Mexico Army National Guard and the New Mexico Air National Guard. The Army component originated as a territorial militia in 1846 and is headquartered in Santa Fe. The Air component, established in 1947 when the Air Force became a distinct branch of the United States military, is based in Albuquerque and consists of the 150th Fighter Wing.
The ribbon is gold and is bisected by a thin vertical red stripe flanked on either side by a white stripe and a dark blue stripe proceeding outward.
