The New Mexico National Guard Medal of Merit honors New Mexico National Guard members who carry out exceptional service over an extended period of time.
The New Mexico National Guard is composed of the New Mexico Army National Guard and the New Mexico Air National Guard. The Army component originated as a territorial militia in 1846 and is headquartered in Santa Fe. The Air component, established in 1947 when the Air Force became a distinct branch of the United States military, is based in Albuquerque and consists of the 150th Fighter Wing.
The ribbon is red and features two thin vertical gold stripes toward each edge.
