The New Mexico National Guard Medal of Valor honors New Mexico National Guard members who execute an act of valor or heroism; risk of life is not required for bestowal of the award.
The New Mexico National Guard is composed of the New Mexico Army National Guard and the New Mexico Air National Guard. The Army component originated as a territorial militia in 1846 and is headquartered in Santa Fe. The Air component, established in 1947 when the Air Force became a distinct branch of the United States military, is based in Albuquerque and consists of the 150th Fighter Wing.
The ribbon is white and features two vertical red stripes toward the center.
