The Vermont National Guard Good Conduct Medal honors Vermont National Guard members who carry out a designated term of service honorably and without incurring disciplinary action.
The Vermont National Guard is made up of the Vermont Army National Guard and the Vermont Air National Guard, also referred to as the Green Mountain Boys. The Army component numbers approximately 3,000 soldiers and dates back to militia activity in the mid-eighteenth century. The Air component, based in South Burlington and numbering around 1,000 airmen and women, traces its roots to the 67th Fighter Wing, formed officially in October of 1946.
The ribbon is gray and features two thin vertical stripes of red and two of blue toward the center on each side; these stripes are divided by two thin white and two thin dark blue lines.
