The Virginia National Guard Strength Maintenance Ribbon honors Virginia National Guard members who achieve an impeccable attendance record for designated events and training.
The Virginia National Guard is composed of the Virginia Army National Guard and the Virginia Air National Guard. The Army component numbers around 7,500 members and is based in Sandston; it dates all the way back to 1607 militia activity in colonial Jamestown. The Air component, headquartered in Richmond, gained official recognition in June of 1947 with the 149th Fighter Squadron.
The ribbon is bisected by vertical blue stripe flanked on either side by a white stripe and a slightly thinner red stripe proceeding outward to each edge.
