The Virginia National Guard Strength Maintenance Ribbon honors Virginia National Guard members who demonstrate excellence in enhancing the strength of the Guard.
The Virginia National Guard is composed of the Virginia Army National Guard and the Virginia Air National Guard. The Army component numbers around 7,500 members and is based in Sandston; it dates all the way back to 1607 militia activity in colonial Jamestown. The Air component, headquartered in Richmond, gained official recognition in June of 1947 with the 149th Fighter Squadron.
The ribbon is gray with three alternating thin vertical stripes each of blue and red on each edge.
