History

The Wyoming National Guard Medal for Excellence honors Wyoming National Guard members who execute a feat of heroism involving the risk of his or her life; who demonstrates sustained excellence in a position of substantial responsibility; or who achieves notable accomplishments on behalf of Wyoming or the Wyoming Guard.

The Wyoming National Guard consists of the Wyoming Army National Guard and the Wyoming Air National Guard. The Army component dates back to a territorial militia in 1870 and numbers approximately 1,700 soldiers at present. The Air component was founded in August of 1946 and currently numbers approximately 1,200; its major unit is the 153d Airlift Wing, and it is based in Cheyenne.

Details

The ribbon is blue and is bisected by a thin red vertical stripe flanked on either side by a slightly thicker white stripe.
