The Wyoming National Guard Meritorious Achievement Medal honors Wyoming National Guard members who carry out exceptional service in such a manner as to set themselves apart from their peers and in excess of normal expectations. To qualify, service must generally be of a particularly difficult or demanding nature, though the award may also be issued in instances of sustained noteworthy service in a significant position.
The Wyoming National Guard consists of the Wyoming Army National Guard and the Wyoming Air National Guard. The Army component dates back to a territorial militia in 1870 and numbers approximately 1,700 soldiers at present. The Air component was founded in August of 1946 and currently numbers approximately 1,200; its major unit is the 153d Airlift Wing, and it is based in Cheyenne.
The ribbon is red with a thin vertical white stripe toward each edge.
