History - Established 1943

Established on May 10, 1943, the Merchant Marine Combat Bar Ribbon honors Merchant Marine mariners who carried out service onboard a vessel that sustained an enemy attack during World War II; the awardee must have been the vessel at the time of the attack. The award has been discontinued.

The Merchant Marine consists of civilian mariners who operate privately and federally owned vessels; in wartime, these vessels may be called to provide transportation or other support for military troops or supplies.

Details

The ribbon features three equally sized horizontal stripes of teal, red, and blue from top to bottom, separated by thinner white stripes.
