Established in May of 1980 and retroactive to August 15, 1974, the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon honors United States Navy and Marine Corps personnel who carry out service with a deployed unit for 90 days consecutively, for two periods each of a minimum of 80 days within a one-year term, or six months at a forward-deployed overseas station.
The ribbon is bisected by a vertical aqua stripe flanked on either side by a thin stripe each of dark blue, yellow, red, and black.
Additional awards may be indicated by service stars.
