D.O.T. Outstanding Unit Citation

Created in 1994 and discontinued in 2003, the D.O.T. Outstanding Unit Citation honors United States Coast Guard units that carried out noteworthy service; it was the most prestigious award available to Coast Guard members at the unit level.

D.O.T. Distinguished Service Medal

Established on December 7, 1992 and discontinued on March 1, 2002, the Transportation Distinguished Service Medal honors Coast Guard members who carry out exceptional service in a position or task of considerable responsibility while operating under the aegis of the Department of Transportation.

D.O.T. 9-11 Medal

In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the Department of Transportation created awards to honor civilians and military personnel who assisted in subsequent relief efforts. The Transportation 9-11 Medal was established in 2002 to honor civilians and military personnel who carried out heroic and courageous acts directly following the September 11 attacks.

D.O.T. 9-11 Coast Guard

In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the Department of Transportation established a series of awards to honor civilians and military personnel who assisted in subsequent relief efforts. The 9-11 Coast Guard Ribbon was discontinued in 2002 but is still authorized for uniform wear.

Coast Guard Unit Commendation

Established in 1963, the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon is the most prestigious award available to Coast Guard units during peacetime. It honors commands that demonstrate outstanding comportment or acts of valor on behalf of the Coast Guard in non-combat situations. Auxiliary units are also eligible for the award.

Established on July 1, 1987, the Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon honors Coast Guard members who carry out designated feats of exceptional service in non-combat situations that are not eligible for other awards.

Coast Guard Sea Service

Established in 1984, the Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon honors Coast Guard members who carry out service for a minimum agglomerate term of one year aboard a Coast Guard cutter, with a Fleet Training Group, or aboard other qualifying seacraft.

Coast Guard Restricted Duty

Established on March 3, 1984, the Coast Guard Restricted Duty Ribbon honor Coast Guard members who satisfactorily carry out a Permanent Change of Station tour at a designated station including remote locations such as the Arctic Circle or combat areas. Tours completed at stations where dependents are permitted are not eligible for the award.
