Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service

The Civilian Award For Humanitarian Service Medal honors civilian individuals who perform noteworthy service or deeds of a humanitarian bent. It is awarded at the discretion of the relevant major Army commands.

Established in June 1998, the Army Exceptional Public Service Award honors civilians who provide outstanding service or contributions to advance objectives of the Department of the Army. Civilian employees and contractors for the United States Armed Forces are not eligible.

Army Distinguished Civilian Service Award

Established in May of 1956, the Army Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service honors individuals who have made substantial contributions to the Armed Forces but are not eligible for the Army’s Honorary Awards. Neither Army civilian employees nor personnel are eligible.

Armed Forces Civilian Service

Established on August 22, 1997, the Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal honors civilian employees of the Department of Defense who provide support to military forces or who participate in long-term peacekeeping or humanitarian operations under similar circumstances as members of the uniformed military.

Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award

The second-highest award granted to civilians, the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award Medal is approved at the MAJCOM level. It is presented to civilian employees of the Air Force who demonstrate excellence in carrying out their duties for a minimum period of one year, to those who demonstrate notable initiative in improving procedures or protocols, or to those who otherwise contribute to general morale and performance.
